Principal of Sustainability Transformation, Marion Baeli speaks at Future Build 2024

Last week, our Principal of Sustainability Transformation, Marion Baeli took to the stage, alongside a selection of the UK’s leading practitioners, to explore 'Retrofit Design at Scale'.

We caught up with Marion to get her take on the event, and here's what she had to say about this exciting experience:

“After a decade of growth and development, the UK's retrofit movement has finally taken center stage at Future Build! It was uplifting to see a full house for the session! Personally, I’ve been eager for the industry to acknowledge the importance of improving the efficiency of our building stock and the decarbonisation of its operation. The industry has a responsibility to lead the charge in combating global carbon emissions, and the strong turnout is a promising sign.

Our panel; which included Loreana Padron, Julie Godefroy, Alex Whitcroft, and Nick Wilde; discussed the ways to scale-up retrofits — the barriers and the opportunities. Julie and I touched on the results of our collaborative research project, which looks back on retrofits completed 10 years ago. That research thankfully revealed that Fabric First does last and, if the services are kept simple, they are also robust and reliable. We hope the panel offered tangible insights into the practice of retrofits and will inspire many more to help scale up this much-needed sector, with no less than 26 million dwellings needing to be addressed in the UK!”
